Last Saturday I took an early morning trip over to the Brick Ponds Wetland which is conveniently located smack in the middle of the city just off Springbank Road.
I've never seen a spectacle quite like this before. I spotted several groups of fish in the shallows near the shoreline. Not sure if they were feeding, spawning, or what?!
Two Canada Geese were coming in to land. It's the same pair as in my Skywatch Friday shot.
A female Red-winged Blackbird.
And a male Red-winged Blackbird.
I'm originally from an island province and, even though I grew up "inland", Grand Falls-Windsor is a river town so water is very elemental and dear to me. Take a trip back in time and pop over to this post from my visit home to Newfoundland in 2007.
How did that big blackbird land on that delicate reed without falling over. as usual your pictures of birds are really nice - congradulations. (did I spell that right?)
ReplyDeleteYou captured several rare moments. The fish photo was great. But, then they all were,

wonderful post of the water theme. I think the fish were doing the happy dance. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove it! especially the fish sex. Definitely fish sex going on under cover of water....
ReplyDeleteI love nature shots! Most of mine tend to get deleted because I never seem to capture what I'd like from them. You did a great job though. And I agree- Thanks to Patty and Reggie girl for this wonderful artistic outlet! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a tranquil place Brick Ponds Wetland is. From your shots it's hard to imagine it's right "smack in the middle of the city".
ReplyDeleteKim, Woodstock is a very small city (35,000) so it's not hard to be smack in the middle of it. Fortunately someone had the foresight to list the Wetlands as a protected site.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like fish love to me Elaine Dale.......I mean love!!!
ReplyDeleteSpectacular nature shots. As always :)
You add so very much to our "gang". I love your take on things and your sweetness shines in every post....
Hope your weekend is filled with love, joy and laughter and......

Hey Reggie, thanks for the comments. I think my husband, friends, family and co-workers would find any reference to me and sweetness in the same sentence hysterical. I'm a redhead and a scorpio so I'm more firey than sweet.
ReplyDeleteExcellent choice of a location. Your eye for nature is superb!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, indeed, lets all praise Patty and Reggie Girl for an excellent idea!
Nice capture of the fish and the birds. Thanks for sharing your photos.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots- that fish one is really awesome.
ReplyDeleteExcellent shots of the subject. I really like the fish photo. Amazing to capture that.
ReplyDeleteWow! These are amazing...my daughter & I are both "cool-ing" over those fish! What a great shot!
ReplyDeleteHey Elaine! I have just joined Friday shoot out - I am not very talented, but I have fun taking pics! I am also a fellow Canadian - lovely to meet you. I look forward to following you!
ReplyDeleteFabulous photos. you really do live in a lovely part of the world. That is the thing I love most about blogging, I can sit right here in my computer chair and SEE the world through the eyes of others, learn something about where they live, hear first hand stories of their area and their towns. Life does not get much better then that. What did I ever do in life before I discovered blogging!! A lovely lovely post, so glad that I dropped by for a visit. I will be back again, that is for sure. Take care, Debby
ReplyDeleteOh Elaine, your comment on my blog totally cracked me up! I want to do a follow-up to my laughter blog with stories and links to other bloggers. I would LOVE to use your example - is that ok with you?
ReplyDelete- Your new friend in laughter and in photos, Audrey!
Love the flopping fish in the shallows and the red winged blackbirds!
ReplyDeleteThe flopping fish were funny yet creepy at the same time...
ReplyDeleteHey you, I'm a redhead and a scorpio too. 4th of Nov. That is funny what you told Reggie.
ReplyDeleteThis was such a cute water post, loved it!
