I really hope this views well on your computer - I captured a sundog! We were driving south on Highway 59 from Tavistock to Woodstock on Saturday, November 29th around 3pm when I spotted this sundog in the west, just below and to the right of the contrail. It was like a mini smudge of a rainbow. Technically, it's an atmospheric optical phenomenon primarily associated with the reflection or refraction of sunlight by small ice crystals making up cirrus or cirrostratus clouds. This second sky view was taken a short while later, due south of the first photo. I've played with the contrast, tint etc. a bit.

I had never heard of a sundog - but I like it! Makes for a pretty picture - you ARE saying a "sundog" & "smudge of a rainbow" is the same thing, right? Very cool capture!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the second picture a lot.
ReplyDeleteNature is truly beautiful! Happy weekend! Hope you get time to visit my corner too...
ReplyDeleteSensational sundog. The second photo looks like tornado sky.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations dog catcher! When I caught one I felt like I had won the Lottery! Great shot, apart from that you have to recognize the wonder you are seeing, it is seldom very bringt except near the arctic circle.
ReplyDeleteSo cool. I've never seen a sundog. I like what you did to the bottom shot.
