Hospital Hawk

When we moved to our new office near the hospital (Woodstock Hospital) in September of 2012 we quickly noticed that there's at least one Red-tailed Hawk in the neighbourhood and we refer to it as "the hospital hawk".  Even though we've seen it numerous times, I've never been lucky enough to have good light conditions when the hawk is relaxed and ignoring me.  Until tonight.  I'm thrilled with these shots taken from about 100 feet with my Canon SX500IS.

    1. Hi Delores, we felt very lucky that the RTH was so patient. Normally they fly off just as I raise my camera ;-}

  3. Great colour! I hear a bird calling up in the trees, and it sounds like a hawk, but it is very small. Can't get a good look at it yet. - Margy

    1. Hey Margy! You could be seeing and hearing either a Merlin or an American Kestrel - both are ver small hawks. I think the Merlin might be the best bet; it's about the size of a Pigeon.

  4. Love those shots. The third one makes it look as though it's having a really good check on you.
