A gaggle of visitors

About mid-morning today my co-worker, Al, appeared in my office doorway and announced, "Bird alert!"

And it was a big bird alert. Not as in Sesame Street "Big Bird"  but as in Canada Geese and a number of them.  They managed to find a patch of grass among the snow and stayed around all day to nibble.  I was shooting through a rose tinted window so I've converted the photo to black and white.  This flock was still feeding when I left work at 4:30 p.m.

In the meantime, a different flock landed outside my office window this afternoon.  They wandered up and down the hill for about ten minutes....

.....and finally decided to fly the coop

We also have a pair of Red-Tailed Hawks in the office neighbourhood.  With any luck they're a mating pair and we might get to see some juveniles over the summer.

  3. When I get back to the cabin in two weeks, maybe ours will be home too. So far have only seen a Merganzer pair. - Margy

  4. I love the one of them in flight. Were you dodging work all afternoon waiting for them to take off?

    1. No, I was lucky, I stood at my window for about ten minutes and when I felt they were getting ready to lift off I focused and got lucky. No sign of them this week I think they've had their fill of whatever they found on the grass.
