Scriptor Senex suggested this week's theme - birds. I'm guessing and hoping that others will be more imaginative with their contributions to this week's theme than I'm being. But anyone who visits my blog on a regular basis knows that I'm a bird nerd. So, I'm posting my best sightings since the new year started.
On New Year's Day this White-breasted Nuthatch kept me company on my walk and stayed on one tree long enough for me to take these two shots.
On January 8th I was being watched by this Black-capped Chickadee while I walked in the woods.
This Red-breasted Nuthatch visited our suet feeder on January 10th.
Female House Sparrow playing hide and seek on January 13th.
Before I sign off, I leave you with this thought: I hope you will find it in your heart to pause and think about what you can for the people of Haiti who are suffering loss beyond what we can imagine. Do a bit of research, find a trustworthy aid organization, and make a contribution.

ReplyDeleteI have also seen others post of dove nests outside on the porch or near there of...I once had a few make a home inside a Sylvester ceramic hanger I had on my porch, and we loved watching them like you are...until a few eggs fell from the nest, then my heart was saddened...Thanks for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteAaaaah, Elaine - birds that I'm so familiar with and you've shared them so sweetly. The little nuthatch are precious little creatures, aren't they? And our sweet little chickadee's...
ReplyDeleteNice to visit you again, Elaine :)
I don't think your photos are unimaginative. You have some good bird photos and I really like that chickadee. He's very cute.
ReplyDeleteI really like that second shot of the White-breasted nuthatch!
ReplyDeleteYou truly deserve the Bird Nerd title!! I so admire your wonderful photos. Love the header!
ReplyDeleteSweet little birds you have there. Gray is looking very comfy - doesn't he get excited about birds too?
ReplyDeleteThis is the third post I've visited and I realize that I am going to learn a whole lot this morning. Thanks for great shots and good identification.
ReplyDeleteI do love the nuthatches and the chickadees, they are two of my favorites. Thanks for sharing them here.
ReplyDeleteCall me strange (why not), but the photo I loved best was the little sparrow surrounded by branches, playing hind n' seek.
ReplyDeleteEspecially in terms of composition, it was just wonderful.
I am no expert but I think your photographs are great. They are so big and clear. Maybe that is your camera, some editing or just plain skill, but they are great. We have the same birds in Ky. but my photos are not that good. Blessings

Thank you for remembering the tragic souls in Haiti.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are impressive - took me back to my childhood, when I stood outside in the freezing snow for hours. Hand outstretched, holding birdseed, until finally a chickadee landed and ate.
Heaven.
Bird-nerd--that rocks!! Love the angles of your shots. And I agree we all need to give what we can to help those suffering in Haiti.
ReplyDeleteLoved the White-breasted Nuthatch - great shooting. Thanks for taking part.
ReplyDeletethat last one was my favorite, he is peeking at you through his hiding spot - much like a child.
ReplyDeleteloved it!
We should nick-name you the Bird Lady. You certainly have an eye for birds. You must have learned that from Gray. I like the little bird on the branch peeking out from the snow. He looks so fluffy and happy.
ReplyDeleteAh, to have the life of Gray or any of our cats. Perhaps in another life.
I so feel for the people of Haiti. I am trying to find a way to get there but travel is limited and today, unless you are in with the big press, newspapers will not spend a dime on travel.
I wish they would get some equipment there to help move the rubble. Where is the heavy equipment?
