Friday My Town Shoot Out - My favorite place to ________

This week's theme, is compliments of Cindy in Alaska and my choice is "my favorite place to spend time bird watching" and that place happens to be our backyard. Well the view of our feeders through the diningroom window, to be exact.

An American Goldfinch with our budding lilac in the background.

Gray checking out the feeders in the summer.

A tree full of sparrows in the fall.

But my favorite time for birdwatching through the diningroom window is in the winter.

We see Blackcapped Chickadees.

Northern cardinals - everyone thinks this male looks like it should be on the cover of a Stephen King novel.
A Mourning Dove basking in the winter sun.

Chow time at the mess hall.

The Friday My Town Shoot Out is always fun, check out the home page for more information. Have a great week everyone!

  1. Well, you know my favorite is Gray. But I really loved the red bird and the dove.

All the photos make for an excellent study of your favorite past time.

Great work. Have a great weekend.

  2. It's hard to get bird pictures and here you have displayed a whole bunch of them. Looks like you have a world of bird life in a concentrated spot! I like the cat's eye view. And I miss cardinals; I grew up with them, but we don't have them here on the west coast.

  10. Such a great post!

I especially loved the photo of your cat checking out the feeder! You've inspired me to put up a feeder outside my home--although I think the only birds it would encourage are ravens and nobody wants that. They'd give that cardinal a run for its money in the "I deserve to be on the front of a Stephen King novel" department!

    Thanks for the post :)

  13. Wow, what diverse visitors you get! I love each capture. You have a lovely backyard. I could sit all day at the window and join the cat in bird watching. (Except my intentions would not be to pounce on them!)

  16. Barry, as for the light in these bird photos, it is compliments of the fact that I'm shooting through the screen on the window. Whether it is sunny, dull, raining or snowing the screen diffuses the light to varying degrees. Thanks for the compliments everyone.
