As I mentioned in yesterday's post, our Mourning Doves are back. This morning they are continuing to build their twig nest above our front door. Fortunately there is a transom window above the door so we have front row seats. In this photo you can see the dove peeking in at us.
Here's a closer view.
This pair of birds kept us (especially Gray) entertained from April to the end of September last year. It will be interesting to see what this year will bring.
Bet you he's thinkin' gee it looks warmer in there.
ReplyDeleteOMG! I can't believe how close she is to your house and the fact that she can look in at you. LOL
ReplyDeleteKim they are pretty brave. Unless they see a human flailing around inside the house. Just after the first two babies fledged last May we woke one morning to find a bat in the hallway just indoors and around the corner from the nest. I proceeded to chase the bat with a broom like a lunatic for about 10 minutes before depositing it safely outside. Later that morning the doves disappeared. A few weeks later we discovered their new nest in one of our hanging planters. They spent the remainder of the season raising chicks in the planter. I'm hoping we have a bat free spring and, with luck, they will stay above the door. It's pretty cheap enterainment for Gray.
