ABC Wednesday - D is for door

We often take photos which include doors as part of the larger picture. Here are four of mine where I've chosen to make the doors "the picture".

Looking out through the doors of the Festival Theatre in Stratford, Ontario to a statue of Shakespeare.

A door in the East Block section of Parliament Hill in Ottawa. The East Block has been maintained as a historically accurate reflection of conditions at the time of Canada's confederation. If you visit, you will see the restored office of Canada's first Prime Minister - Sir John. A. Macdonald, and have the opportunity to interact with costumed persons presenting historical characters from centuries past.
The entrance of Baird Machines Inc., Woodstock. The business started in 1890 on Vansittart Avenue, and moved to the current location on the corner of Dundas and Victoria around 1900. It is still operated by the Baird family. I love the ornate leaf detail around the door. You can see a close-up of it here. This final door is on an abandoned farm house on Highway 59 north of Woodstock, you can see the house here.

To see more takes on the letter "D" please visit ABC Wednesday.
Thanks Denise for taking care of us!

  3. These are all very beautiful photos, I really like each one of them. I can't understand how anyone could abandon such a place as that farm, though of course I don't know any of the story, lol.

  7. Very nice post. I assumed the second door was a chuch door until I read your commentary. What a great idea to have a variety of doors. Doors are so symbolic.

  9. How interesting can doors be, and do they tell something of the people living or working in the building? Great set of photos.

  10. We parked at the Bairds lot, every week when we went to church, because my father knew them. And I do not think I ever saw that door!! Talking about how kids can be so oblivious of their surroundings! When you went to the East Block at the Hill, did you see the face in the tower? Or is it just my imagination?
    Thanks for the memories!

  11. Judy, you must have attended First Baptist or Central United? Isabel Baird is a friend of mine, she's a force to be reckoned with. Didn't see the face in the tower at the East Block, must look the next time.

  13. There's something special about doors like these, and your first photo looking out of the door is very good indeed.
