We had a wonderful trip to Newfoundland and Labrador this summer. Even better than the last one, especially since we flew direct and spent the whole time there. I'm ready to do it all over again, but Haida Gwaii comes next. - MargyPowell River Bookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17580698518291129041noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6125635957037556265.post-31052049846429338952014-08-25T10:33:24.775-04:002014-08-25T10:33:24.775-04:00Once the chicks and adults have left the area for ...Once the chicks and adults have left the area for the year I'll be checking with the area utility company, Hydro One, to ask if they have plans to relocate the birds. As the current nest is on a utility pole, there could be risk to the birds or to the power supply in the area. Here in Canada utility companies have been known to put up decoy pole - topped by a wooden platform, suitable for nest building - near the original site. They would then remove the original nest in hopes the returning birds would choose the pole with the platform and build a new nest. You have to know it's there - a wonderful secret to share with those gorgeous birds.Pondsidehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02407539138546412482noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6125635957037556265.post-25044404945952765522014-08-22T16:15:18.367-04:002014-08-22T16:15:18.367-04:00I hope she is getting ready for next year, lets ho...I hope she is getting ready for next year, lets hope they fledge OK and come back in a few years to raise their own chicks.Don Woodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17099505939055955603noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6125635957037556265.post-20873117328378821402014-08-20T12:45:33.819-04:002014-08-20T12:45:33.819-04:00Wow nice shot, caught in the act ;-)Wow nice shot, caught in the act ;-)Missyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09265603751681704881noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6125635957037556265.post-66572971418595900432014-08-19T04:11:27.651-04:002014-08-19T04:11:27.651-04:00We saw an osprey nest along the road, but I can...We saw an osprey nest along the road, but I can't remember now if it was in Labrador or Newfoundland. We passed it twice. It was on one of those special platforms on a power pole so they wouldn't build a nest where the wires connect. Wayne and I had a wonderful trip. One week wasn't enough time, but there is always another chance to take a trip. - MargyPowell River Bookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17580698518291129041noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6125635957037556265.post-35904349824104913812014-08-17T22:22:20.478-04:002014-08-17T22:22:20.478-04:00A mother's work is never done.
