'Til the next time, Bay of Islands

My final day in Corner Brook we drove up to the Captain James Cook lookout.  Cook spent several seasons mapping the coast of Newfoundland and during the season of 1767 he concentrated on St. George's Bay, Port au Port, Port au Choix, and the Bay of Islands.  He also travelled 24 km up the Humber River.

While Cook is best know for his expeditions to the Pacific, it was in North America, particularly in Newfoundland, that he honed his trade as a cartographer and explorer.

The views from Cook's lookout are stunning.

To celebrate with one last latte before I departed for points east, we stopped at Harbour Grounds and enjoyed the view out the bay from the deck as we sipped out hot drinks.

The next day I was off to Outer Cove in the capable driving hands of my brother, Rob, bombing along in his Mini Cooper.  Woo-hoo!!!

  1. These photos are lovely Elaine! I haven't been back home to Corner Brook for over 5 years now, as I have been rather tied up doing elder care for my very aged (99 & 92) in-laws in Northern Ontario. Now that we finally have them situated, I am hoping to go back home again next year. Thanks for taking me there visually this year. Just loved it. Dave

    1. Thanks for the compliment, Dave. If you haven't already done so, check out the Captain Cook look-out the next time you're in Corner Brook. The views are wonderful. Cheers!
