Gros Morne and area, part 1

Without question, Gros Morne National Park in Newfoundland is one of my favorite places to spend time.  I am never disappointed with the photos I shoot in the area because if the light isn't quite right I just have to be patient and it's sure to come around to the good.

Deborah, her sister-in-law Marg and I had 3 tickets for an event at Writers at Woody Point and decided to make an overnight trip of it.

One of our first stops was at Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse -
Built in 1897 this lighthouse features interpretive exhibits about the communities of the national park and how people made their living from the sea for more than 4000 years.  Short paths through elfin forest lead to spectacular viewpoints over the Gulf of St. Lawrence and stairs wind down to the shore.

This rock formation is one of the outcrops that inspired me to buy a copy of Geology of Newfoundland from Boulder Publications - it's an excellent field guide.

Looking back over Bonne Bay from Lobster Cove Head.

We had heavy stormy weather off and on all day but it provided a nice backdrop for shooting.

Calm in Rocky Harbour.

Million dollar view

I know these beachcombers!  Marg and Deborah, heads down in concentration.

We stayed at Mountain Range Cottages in Rocky Harbour and I'd highly recommend the location.  The cottages were spacious and spotlessly clean.

A nice veranda on each cottage and a fireplace and flat screen tv inside - great for a rainy evening.

Early evening views of Norris Point from the Jennix House lookout.

One of the wonderful geological features to be found in the area.  More about the geology of the area in a later post.
