Fly over

It was a beautiful morning for a walk on the trail. I saw White-breasted Nuthatches, Downy Woodpeckers, Hairy Woodpeckers and Mallards. I heard, but didn't see a Belted Kingfisher.

The bird of the day, however, was the Canada Goose. I watched four different flocks fly over and managed to capture this one.

  3. Late leaving aren't they? I haven't seen a goose in months around the lake. - Margy

  4. For the last three days the lawn at the fire station has been covered in Canada geese. There is open water close by and I have a feeling the "boys" may be handing out treats.
The "owl prowl" is coming up soon at the U of G arboretum.

  5. I wonder where the geese are off too?? Maybe spring is closer than we think, even though that's what it feels like! :-)

  6. For all of you who have wondered about the geese being late leaving, or where they are going etc. - many, many, many of these lazy devils spend more and more of the winter here in southwestern Ontario. Southside Park here in Woodstock is a favorite watering hole, particularly if part of the creek that flows through it stays ice-free. So far we've had very little winter. It was -4C here this morning but the creek and river on my favorite trail are still ice-free and the little snow we had is gone. I think the geese will be staying.

  7. The air must be thin and cold up there. Leaves me breathless!

  8. Elaine- I'm always in awe of these fly overs. I'm thinking- did they practice that formation? Nature is truly amazing. I also love being at the beach and watching the pelicans fly over in their formations. It used to bet Dad's favorite thing to do-- sit on the balcony and watch the pelicans fly over--
    Love you/
