What a difference a day makes

Yesterday I posted about how much water there was on my favorite trail (the Youth Start Millenium Trail). This is what it looked like yesterday morning.

The temperature continued to plunge yesterday and overnight. This was the same spot today - the water trail had become an ice trail.

Even an ice tree skirt.

And an ice grass skirt.

So, I decided to check out another local trail (known as the Pittock Dam trail)- one that wouldn't be under ice or water - one where I found some brave souls fishing and another taking a bike ride. You can see the Dam in the background.

There was ice at the river's edge.

As beautiful as any crystals.

A cold but beautiful walk.

  1. Elaine, I love your ice and berries shots! Must admit to being rather stunned at seeing men fishing in that weather, I think I'd want to do something a little more active!

I don't know how I would cope with your weather extremes but I freely admit it makes for great beauty.

  3. Elaine that really looks cold, youy were brave venturing out but I am glad you did. I love the ice with no water under it just suspended like a horizontal icicle. XXX Don

  4. I love that you commented on the "ice" clothes of the grass and trees. It's funny the way water melts and leaves us with interpretive impressions. I have a bit of a cold right now but when it goes away, I will be looking forward to getting outdoors more, as long as it isn't TOO icy. Steven at the Golden Fish did an interpretive blog on icicles by the sea that I enjoyed today. I miss visiting here and seeing your beautiful pictures, Elaine.
