Friday My Town Shoot Out - transitions

The Friday My Town Shoot Out is a place where blogging friends from around the world meet and share photos based on a weekly theme each Friday. I've been away from the Friday shoot for too many weeks and have finally gotten my act together again!

This week's theme "transitions" was chosen by Redlan who lives in the Phillipines.

Normally, I would look for shots for the topic in My Town, Woodstock, Ontario but I couldn't resist this opportunity when we were in Stratford today - I met Sam General from Six Nations of the Grand just outside Gallery Indigena Inc.

Isn't the transition amazing when a piece of stone like the one on the left ends up becoming a turtle like the one on the right?!

  1. I have heard that artists often feel there is an image within a stone or a piece of wood that they help release. - Margy

  3. It takes a lot of dedications and delicate works to transform the stone into something so beautiful!

  4. I see the transformation of rock to art... but even more, when I look at the first photo, I see a man with a face of stone, like the mountains. Can you imagine what transformation has taken place since he was a child?
I love the reflections. This is a wonderful photo.

  5. Some artists blow life into their creation, and the longer they are, the more life like the creation becomes.

  7. Awesome luck, but more awesome is that you recognized it as a tie to the FSO. You would make a good photojournalist.

Gray needs to get another hobby.

  8. In art, the transition between a blank slate into a creation is one of the most powerful and beautiful!

  10. Not only is the idea of stone to sculpture a special transition, but the photo of the artist gives one a whole new look into the transition of every day life in the reflection mirrored in the window.

  12. It was a cool experience actually. I was walking up Ontario Street on my way to Bradshaw's store to buy an insulated mug for my husband when I passed Sam packing up from the carving demo. For some reason the "transition" theme popped into my head immediately and he agreed to the photos. The stars aligned.
