Friday My town Shoot Out - Bridge(s) in black and white

I have to fess up. I'm the brave soul who suggested "bridge(s)" and the FSO Team suggested the black and white angle.

I'm going with the traditional meaning - being a structure over water connecting two bits of land. Okay, I know, the dictionaries would be much more specific and clinical but it works for me. One of the reason I chose "bridge" is my love of water. Another would be that I like functional architecture. And finally I walk over a bridge into the woods everytime I walk my favorite trail.

So, here are my offerings and I hope everyone has fun with the theme.

The Alexandra Bridge is a long way from where I live but I wanted to post this photo so I could tell you that it is also known as "the Interprovincial Bridge" because it spans the Ottawa River and connects Ottawa, Ontario with Gatineau (formerly Hull) Quebec. In the lower centre of the photo you can also see a small portion of the lock system on the Rideau Canal which links lakes and rivers between Ottawa and Kingston, Ontario. During the winter the canal is a popular place to ice skate.

Here is a wee footbridge that crosses a stream at Stonehaven Golf Club. It's a lovely 9 hole course out in the middle of farm country near Embro,Ontario - just a short drive (pardon the pun) from here.

And finally, here is a winter view of the start of my favorite trail.

Please visit Mr. Linky for other contributions on the theme.

  5. First of all, thanks for this week's theme; I had a good time with it and realized that bridges are not hard to find at all. Second of all. I would love to walk into that last photo, how beautiful

  6. It was a great idea and the b&w even added to that, even though I did not do that. I am just learning to do photoshop but don't like to change my pics. I don't have a camera that uses B&W film anymore. I guess not many folks do. I am just falling in love with Canada. Might have to move if the USA keeps getting so way off track. LOL

  7. The footbridge on the golf course was breathtaking, Elaine.

I remember walking across the bridge over the Ottawa River during Canada Day celebrations.

Thank you for suggesting this theme. It's made for a lot of fun.

  10. I didn't appreciate your suggestion to start with but I'm glad I overcame my trepidation and gave black and white bridges a go! I just knew you would have some wonderful shots. That little golf course bridge is lovely - although I can imagine some of the things golfers may have said about it!!

  12. Darn. As much as I love black and white I should have jumped in on this one. Except that the few bridges we have are about as photogenic as a a stretch of pavement. Not that pavement can't be photogenic in many ways. But some pavement is just boring.

Your photos are beautiful - dreamy. Black and white makes you want to study a photo, doesn't it?

I love the last photo. I wonder what is on the other side of the bridge?

Skipper was viewing this with me, checking in on Gray. He wants to know why Gray has not moved in weeks. He says he is worried about him.

    Have a great weekend.
