Year in review, part 3

To end my "year in review" I've chosen a few bird photos - I became a bit of a bird nerd this year. The Mourning Dove (and chicks) in the top left photo is one of the pair that raised 8 chicks on our veranda this summer. I'm guessing they'll be back in residence around the middle of March.

bottom row l-r: male Mallard, male House Finch, Red Tailed Hawk

top: Mourning Dove, male Downy Woodpecker
bottom: male American Goldfinch, male Blue Jay

  1. Hello and Happy new year to you! I have become more interested in birdies my self recently. Today I feed the gulls by the sunset and got some lovely photos!

  3. I especially enjoyed your baby dove photos. Its such a nice feeling to have Nature become some of our deepest acquaintances, pointing us back in the direction of true feeling, which we can then share passionately with the rest of the world.

I do love the birds and your photos are super! I am familiar with Highway 2 ... a little town named Gananoque! I love it. I look forward to reading more posts here. The snowy scene for Jan 1 is just enchanting!

  8. Yes, Don, of course you can be a bird nerd! It's a very honourable hobby and can be done with a minimum of equipment (a pair of eyes)and travel(view from your own window, especially if you have feeders). Welcome fellow nerd!

  9. 2009 was the year that I started being able to put more names to more birds - I enjoy reading birding blogs from across the pond - the birds there are different but similar at the same time to the ones I'm familiar with. Your nesting mourning dove's a beauty! Thanks for sharing.
