My World Tuesday - our resident Mourning Doves
This is nest number six for our resident pair of Mourning Doves this season. Four have been successful so, counting the latest two chicks, eight have been raised on our veranda. We're wondering if this will be the last nest this year? Stay tuned.
Corner Brook, the Bay of Islands and the Port au Port Peninsula
I've been promising more photos from my trip to Newfoundland so here's a start. All of these shots were taken on the island's west coast.
This view of the Blomidon Golf Club was taken from a lookout on the Corner Brook Gorge Trail.

Sunday afternoon photo op
In the three weeks since I last walked the Youth Start Trail there's been quite a bit of change in the vegetation. This is the first time I've seen these twin mushrooms.
Goldenrod
and these flowers are Turtleheads (Chelone glabra) - thanks to Karen for identifying these lovely blooms for me.

A parting shot

| From Newfoundland 2009 |
This is my last full day of vacation in Newfoundland so here is one final, parting shot. I took this from the beach at Harry's Harbour yesterday afternoon. My friend Lorraine Haynes and I spent the day exploring King's Point, Rattling Brook and Harry's Harbour. Does anyone wonder why I will miss this place when I leave??

Scenes from my travels
Not much time or opportunity to post so here are some images from the past week.
Laundy drying at Woody Point - my apologies for the reflection from the car window, sometimes you just have to grab the shot when you can....
A lone cross on a cliffside hill on the Port aux Port Peninisula
The view from the deck at Sandy Point at 6:30 am.

Hilary and Jayne's excellent Newfoundland adventure
Last October Geoff and I travelled to Lake Placid and my friends and coworkers, Jayne and Hilary went along for the ride - sort of. So, I didn't want to leave them behind when I was leaving for my trip home to Newfoundland.
Enjoying the view from the wharf at Lomond.
On the boardwalk at Trout River with Deborah.
Being greeted by Sarah at the cabin in Shallow Bay.
And finally, at breakfast with Sarah and Deborah at the Gros Morne Resort.

They both seemed to enjoy themselves with the exception of the time they went missing and were found locked in the glove box of the car.

Sunday Photo Shoot
Well, I'm here in Newfoundland and cousin Deborah and I have our first small road trip under our belts.
This morning we hit the road for points south of Corner Brook in the Bay of Islands. We drove through Benoit's Cove, Frenchman's Cove, Halfway Point, York Harbour and finally Lark Harbour and Bottle Cove.
The first place we stopped was the beach and lagoon at York Harbour where we found this Greater Black Backed Gull sunning itself on a lagoon information sign.
It was a beautiful location and we managed to spot these Greater Yellow Legs in the lagoon.
Deborah's dog Tucker LOVES the water and wasted no time diving in for a stroll.
When he finally emerged he opted for the opposite bank from Deborah of course.
Dories hauled up out of the water.
Further down the road we stopped in Lark Harbour for a bite of lunch at Marlaine's Tidewatcher Cafe. The view was amazing. Obviously I couldn't stop talking about the scenery long enough for Deb to take my picture with my mouth shut .............
These ladies from Corner Brook were enjoying themselves as much as we were. They'd been hiking and had stopped for a chowder lunch.
We didn't go to church today but we did pass a few. This is Saint Ambrose in Halfway Point.
Stay tuned over the next two weeks for more tales from the island.

Friday Shoot Out - power
The power of a little spider to spin a web...how much energy it must take. It takes enough that sometimes they eat their webs for energy. Which came first, chicken or the egg?!
And the power of the sun illuminating another web. Ain't nature grand?
The Friday Shoot Gang has fun with a new theme each week. Kudos to Patty and Reggie Girl for having the inspiration in the first place!

I took this photo while we were waiting in line at the drive-in movie. It reminds me of the "Bunny Hop" dance.

Nest update - brood 3, 2009
Here's one final shot of brood #3. When we got up this morning the chicks and the parents were gone.
Will there be a fourth brood? Stay tuned.

My World Tuesday
We've had a lot of rainy weather recently - as evidenced by the high water line on the leaves by the Thames River. Just a few days ago this duck would've been floating about 18 inches higher.
