Friday My Town Shoot Out - doors and windows

I've always admired the architecture of this old firehall here in Woodstock. It's long since been re-purposed as an office building but the windows and the windows that now fill the locations of the original engine doors still speak to it's original purpose.

I can imagine fire fighters sitting at a table in an upstairs window playing cards to pass the time when the bell rings and they rush to dress, fly down the pole and jump on the pumper which rushes out one of the big garage doors, siren blaring.

Thanks go out to Kerri, a fellow Canadian, for this week's theme: windows and doors. You'll find the name of Shoot Out participants in the right hand column of this blog.

Two treats for me today...your banner picture and the the firehouse! I really like the effect of the firehouse...looks like a painting and I love your banner picture...so serene.

    Have a great weekend.

  4. The old fire hall is a beautiful building Elaine. We have one like it on Birchmount Rd. in Scarborough. It is the oldest fire hall in our city. I wonder if the good looking firemen play poker or bridge? Mmmmmm.
These are our doors and windows to safety. Have a beautiful weekend and I enjoyed your fire hall post.

  7. That is really a classic old fire house. Great architecture. It always amazes me that people design in windows in steeples although hardly anyone ever goes up there.

  9. Lovely photo. Somehow it has the mood of a bygone era. As if it's not as happy as it used to be. But, then, I can be a bit over imaginative at times!

  12. What a beautiful building! I much prefer to think of it as a firehouse than an office building.

  15. That is some fancy building. Do they really have poles? Our local firefighters used to get a kick out my asking why they did not have fire poles.

  16. Yes, Patty, back "in the day" they would have had a fire pole. But I suspect it's long since gone along with the engines and bells.
