Sunday Photo Shoot

Well, I'm here in Newfoundland and cousin Deborah and I have our first small road trip under our belts.

This morning we hit the road for points south of Corner Brook in the Bay of Islands. We drove through Benoit's Cove, Frenchman's Cove, Halfway Point, York Harbour and finally Lark Harbour and Bottle Cove.

The first place we stopped was the beach and lagoon at York Harbour where we found this Greater Black Backed Gull sunning itself on a lagoon information sign.

It was a beautiful location and we managed to spot these Greater Yellow Legs in the lagoon.

Deborah's dog Tucker LOVES the water and wasted no time diving in for a stroll.

When he finally emerged he opted for the opposite bank from Deborah of course.

Dories hauled up out of the water.

Further down the road we stopped in Lark Harbour for a bite of lunch at Marlaine's Tidewatcher Cafe. The view was amazing. Obviously I couldn't stop talking about the scenery long enough for Deb to take my picture with my mouth shut .............

These ladies from Corner Brook were enjoying themselves as much as we were. They'd been hiking and had stopped for a chowder lunch.

We didn't go to church today but we did pass a few. This is Saint Ambrose in Halfway Point.

Stay tuned over the next two weeks for more tales from the island.

  1. Seagull and boats - my favorites right out of the gate. But I love them all! You are really getting good.

I think I recognize that seagull. I know I have seen his face in Crisfield before.

What is Gray up to? Looks like there could be trouble brewing.

  2. I love a Lark Harbour dory -- the significant point is that they're orange. I know that church in Halfway Point. And I will always remember driving what used to be that hairpin road with Uncle Charles!

  4. Looks like we went to some of the same places. When we stopped in Lark Harbour there was a tall ship at the dock. Was it still there? We didn't stop long enough to get the story.

Wayne and I loved our Newfoundland trip, but it was way too short. We lost one day because of the ferry, so only had three nights and two days. We want to go back soon, but will fly directly there. We have rationalized that the cost is less than driving all the way from Montreal. Plus next time we can go to Labrador.

Thanks for following my trip and all the suggestions along the way.

p.s. We never say a moose, but we did hear a radio new report that someone "kissed" one on the road. A kiss like that would ruin your day.

Have a wonderful stay. Keep us posted on your travels. - Margy

  5. I've just had a little mental holiday, thank you. Love the boats and the birds! Can smell the water on them.

I am enjoying your trip very much, as I am not able to make it down home myself this year. Thanks for helping me keep the memories alive. Dave
