Nest update - brood 3, 2009

And then there were two.....chicks that is. This shot confirms that there are, in fact, two Mourning Dove chicks in the nest. Here they are relaxing with their papa.

  1. They are soo cute!!!! What a difference a day makes, huh? I am so happy to see that, #1, they are still in the nest, and #2, that Papa is taking such good care of them! I'm so glad you are sharing this with us!

  2. FYI: for anyone not familiar with the nesting habits of mourning doves, the mama and papa split the time on the nest. Papa is generally on the nest from early morning to early evening and then mama takes over for the evening/night shift. the have it down to a fine art.

  3. We had a laugh this morning at a couple of juvenile mourning doves scratching around under the front yard feeder. One kept chasing the other away; the chasee eventually started hiding in the neighbours' shaggy grass and stalked his way to the feeder. It was very funny, and I wished I had had the long lens on the camera!
