Our Town Shoot Out - Gardens

A scrappy little group of tulips that I see on my way into the office each morning...
a garden and garden mural at Kitchen Emporium (about 5 minutes walk from our house)

a neighbour's garden and wonderful Ontario Cottage style home
a magnolia tree around the corner
and from my own garden last summer - butterflies on the Butterfly Bush, how appropriate!
and a bee, thank heaven for bees. Lets hope they start to recover from the mysteries of colony collapse - we can't do it without them.
And more recently, shots from my garden taken this week - a white Bleeding Heart,
a Hosta unfurling,
and lots of sprightly little violets. My love of gardens was fostered at an early age. Here I am in front of one of my Nan's flower beds when I was about 2.This photo of my brother and Rob and me was taken in front of the same flower bed when he was around 5, and I was about 7. My Dad was the photographer in the family at the time. Thanks go out to the family archives of my cousin Sara for these photos.
Hope everyone in the Friday Our Town Shoot Out gang has a great weekend!

  2. Well, I really love that fence and flower photo. You composed that really well.

The bee is great (we used to keep honey bees as a hobby) and so is the butterfly. The colors are just beautiful.

But the last two are my favorites. I love black and white photos. The magic is easily seen in color photos. It jumps out and slaps you in the face. But in black and white photos, you are drawn in, looking for the magic is you know is there.

Call me a romantic, but that is my story and I am sticking to it!

Thanks for sharing everything with us! Great job.

  5. Thanks for the kind comments. My Nan (Grandmother)was a consummate gardener and instilled the love of flowers in many of her children and grandchildren. Some of my earliest and fondest memories take place in her garden.

  7. I love nature at its best, buzzzz. I home schooled my children and we studied good insects in the garden.

How cute the photos of you and I guess your brothers?

If I get to choose one day, I vote murals! Yeah for murals!

I don't think I can remember them all hahaha but I like the white bleeding heart, it's really bleeding, and the bee is cute. I wish I could take a photo of a bee on a flower.
