Friday Shoot Out - Water

I know, I know, here I go with more nature shots. But the theme for the great Friday Shoot Out is water after all (yesssss!)

Last Saturday I took an early morning trip over to the Brick Ponds Wetland which is conveniently located smack in the middle of the city just off Springbank Road.

I've never seen a spectacle quite like this before. I spotted several groups of fish in the shallows near the shoreline. Not sure if they were feeding, spawning, or what?!
Two Canada Geese were coming in to land. It's the same pair as in my Skywatch Friday shot.

A female Red-winged Blackbird.
And a male Red-winged Blackbird.
I'm originally from an island province and, even though I grew up "inland", Grand Falls-Windsor is a river town so water is very elemental and dear to me. Take a trip back in time and pop over to this post from my visit home to Newfoundland in 2007.
Thanks again to Patty and Reggie Girl for giving birth to Friday Shoot Outs!

  1. How did that big blackbird land on that delicate reed without falling over. as usual your pictures of birds are really nice - congradulations. (did I spell that right?)

  5. I love nature shots! Most of mine tend to get deleted because I never seem to capture what I'd like from them. You did a great job though. And I agree- Thanks to Patty and Reggie girl for this wonderful artistic outlet! :)

  6. What a tranquil place Brick Ponds Wetland is. From your shots it's hard to imagine it's right "smack in the middle of the city".

  7. Kim, Woodstock is a very small city (35,000) so it's not hard to be smack in the middle of it. Fortunately someone had the foresight to list the Wetlands as a protected site.

  9. Hey Reggie, thanks for the comments. I think my husband, friends, family and co-workers would find any reference to me and sweetness in the same sentence hysterical. I'm a redhead and a scorpio so I'm more firey than sweet.

  16. Fabulous photos. you really do live in a lovely part of the world. That is the thing I love most about blogging, I can sit right here in my computer chair and SEE the world through the eyes of others, learn something about where they live, hear first hand stories of their area and their towns. Life does not get much better then that. What did I ever do in life before I discovered blogging!! A lovely lovely post, so glad that I dropped by for a visit. I will be back again, that is for sure. Take care, Debby
