more from Ottawa

The West Block of the Parliament Buildings
Officially opened in 1865, the West Block then contained the Postmaster General, Public Works and Crown Lands departments. Two extensions were later added to the original structure. The Mackenzie Wing and Tower was completed in 1878 and the Laurier Tower and Link was completed in 1906. The first renovations of the West Block took place from 1961 to 1965.
Today, it is occupied by Ministers, Members of Parliament and their staff.
It was quite cool and threatening rain when I was on "the Hill" but it was very envigorating and it offered endless opportunities for good photos.
Captain John Wallace Thomas, CBE
(1888 - 1965)
"This Newfoundlander demonstrated heroism during his service in the Merchant Navy in two world wars. In 1940, as Captain of the Empress of Scotland, he manoeuvred brilliantly under an air attach off Ireland, saving the ship and the troops on board."
A number of bronze busts and figures surround the area of the National War Memorial, including this one of Captain Thomas.

A bit of muted fall colour on our return trip to Woodstock.
